Glebe Quarry at Ancaster, Lincolnshire,
Source of Ancaster Hard White and Weatherbed.

The English countryside is rich with wonderful mineral deposits of limestone and sandstone, many laid down under the sea 1-300 million years ago. With their warm, soft colours and unique patterns and textures these stones add a natural, lasting beauty to building, interiors and gardens for us all to enjoy.

The Rare Stone Group Ltd was formed in 1996 to bring together the sources of some of England's most important stones and to offer a turnkey service to specifiers, contractors, stonemasons and property owners on a project by project basis from extraction through working and fixing.

Within The Group there are currently 2 quarrying and stonemasonry companies both long established businesses offering wellknown unique stones with impressive histories.

Gregory Quarries Ltd in Mansfield, North Nottinghamshire, established in 1846 and in family ownership until 1996, supplies Mansfield White, sent to London in the 1800s for the building of the Houses of Parliament and used for numerous major buildings in the East Midlands. The company also extracts the famous Ancaster Limestone, from near Grantham, popular since Roman times and currently in great demand for conservation and for new developments. By buying in other carefully selected English stone, the limestone range has now been extended to 19, the widest selection in the UK, particularly for flooring and interiors.
